A host can send announcements to all guests to a bedside table interactive interface, and the guests can then place an order for one or two cups of coffee, if desired.

Having an abundance of Nexus 7 tablets given to me as Thank-You gifts for my contributions as a consultant for Google, I wanted to create a series of service apps that utilized spare tablets being used as dedicated bedside table devices in the bedrooms of my family's ranch house.

Both are these apps were fairly simple in that they served as a two-way communication from the kitchen to each bedroom, alerting them of when breakfast would be served and if they would like a cup(s) of coffee brought to their room(s), in the interim.

Imagine the chef / host wants to set or remind each guest of an upcoming breakfast.  From anywhere in the house (or world, actually, as the apps make use of email protocols through a special back channel), the desired breakfast time can be set and then sent to each bedroom's corresponding bedroom tablet.  The guest(s) receives a gentle nudge in the form of a light alert, and the app automatically launches on all participating tablets.  Prior to that moment, the tablet serves only as a bedside table clock, in a low-power, non-intrusive state.

The tablets would receive the data and display the breakfast time, along with options to order (or cancel) a cup of coffee!  The request was then sent back to the sister app and displayed in the form of an alert  to the host / chef.  Cool eh??
